We are 3 months in – it is a different type of world now, where friends and relatives are afraid to shake hands or give hugs. How does this affect our psyche and our physical health?
Newborns who are not touched can die from failure to thrive. Do you think only babies suffer from this phenomenon? ALL humans at ALL ages will suffer psychological and physical damage from lack of touch. This WILL AFFECT your immune system. We need to be connected to each other. Or we may not survive. I understand the fear of catching something. I understand people are dying. I’m not trying to downplay that at all. This is a very difficult time. I have had people die in my life and these times are very hard to walk through. I’m not trying to say that there is nothing going on. There IS something going on. But what we are not looking at, is how easy it is to flush the body of these viruses and these toxins. The body, given the correct nutrients can heal itself. I truly STILL believe this. And we have seen across the country with both MD’s and Naturopaths, and even here at Custom Wellness, that clients with one of these strains of viruses quickly recovers when they have the correct nutritional supplementation for drainage and the immune system. What does the word virus really mean? It is not a living organism. The word virus literally means poison. Somewhere in our history, we decided that it meant some type of “bug” attacking our body. But is it? I am heartbroken when I see people across the globe dying from this, when we have the tools at our disposal, growing on planet earth. But these tools, these plants, these herbs, these nutrients are not patented. They do not make anyone any money at all. They are just growing here on our planet for our health and well-being. We need to support the earth, clean up our habits of filling the air and the earth with our chemicals and toxins, so that the microbiome of the soil produces healthy food for us to eat. This in turn will support a healthy microbiome in our guts too. The gut is the first line of defense for our immune system. A healthy gut will support a healthy body. (more on this in another blog) The number of people who have died from suicide in the past 3 months is off… the… charts. It is now touching almost every family. This is the reason for this blog. Whether you come into the office for a Massage, Reflexology, Gua Sha, Craniosacral or Hot Stone Session… Or you rub your hubby’s back or feet… Or make sure you are healthy, wash your hands, wear a mask and embrace your mom or dad who have been in isolation for 3 months, what I want you to get out of this, is the need for touch. Please, please, make sure everyone in your family is getting a hug, make sure everyone in your family has the interaction and the connection of human touch right now. Mark, our Reflexologist and Bodyworker, says that elderly in nursing homes know they need to get a massage weekly to stay healthy. They know they need that touch. So, if you have to shower before heading over to mom and dad’s, do it. And if you both feel the need to shower after too, do it. Because it is important to not distance yourself socially all the time. Perhaps physical distance is okay most of the time, but social distance? It concerns me that we are using those exact words. In summary, eat organic foods, reduce the chemicals, be kind to the earth, be kind to each other, and give someone a hug today! Author: Connie Kelly Many people think that reflexology is just a foot massage. Is it relaxing? Yes. Does it relieve tension? Yes. And you’re rubbing my feet? How is that “not” a foot massage? Well, I am not just “rubbing your feet”. Let me show you what I mean.
There are 7200 nerve endings in the bottom of each foot. 7200 nerve endings! These nerve endings are connected with ALL parts of the body. By working the feet, you are stimulating and affecting EVERY part of the body via the nerves. Pretty remarkable, huh? “Reflexology is a science that deals with energy pathways that correspond to all the glands, organs and parts of the body. It is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers to reflex these areas in both the feet and hands.”1 (Reflexology, 3) I apply the appropriate amount of pressure to certain areas or points on the foot in such a way that I am stimulating the corresponding part of the body. Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy that can be a nice adjunct to a solid Naturopathy program. It can also help in the following ways:
We can also help with:
And the list is endless. Here are a few testimonials:
And lastly, here’s another thought to chew on: It is unfortunate that in our society, it is taboo to touch each other. In some countries it is acceptable to grasp another person by the shoulders and kiss the left and right cheek and embrace in a hearty hug. In America, we barely shake another person’s hand. And we spend most of our time on our smart devices where we aren’t even conversing verbally with one another. Babies who are not touched fail to thrive, and can die if they don’t feel loved. Touch is vital to living a healthy, vibrant, long life. Reflexology can be a way to receive Touch in a way that is socially acceptable in our society. Give yourself a gift of reflexology this year, and begin your journey to better health. 1. Howard, Amy Jo, ND. Reflexology. Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education. Mt Pleasant, MI. 2014. |
